AUDIORIVER FESTIVAL – PLOCK, POLAND

0

Solomun, Spor feat. Linguistics, Hercules & Love Affair, Karenn live (Blawan & Pariah), John Talabot, Jaguar Skills, SpectraSoul, Graze live and Baasch – this impressive list of names has just been added to the line-up of Poland’s biggest electronic music festival. Audioriver takes place in Plock on July 24-26th, 2015.

Everyone will certainly find something special for themselves in the batch, no matter what genre they are into. What we have here is Solomun’s and Hercules & Love Affair’s sophisticated house music, Spor’s thrilling drum and bass, dark techno from the Karenn duo or brave sounds which escape any clear-cut classifications fashioned by John Talabot and Graze. ”Only one artist from the list has performed at the beach in Plock before. The rest are Audioriver debutants,” says Lukasz Napora, the spokesman for the festival.

Solomun, founder of the well-respected Diynamic label, is one of those who have yet to discover the charm of sand in Plock. There’s no doubt that he and his imprint have left their mark on contemporary house music, popularizing a characteristic warm vibe and melodic quality, soon mimicked by many others. Solomun himself is one of the most revered artists of the recent years, holding several DJ/Producer of the Year titles from such establishments as Mixmag, Groove Magazine, or DJ Awards Ibiza.

Spor, in turn, is the only one making a grand comeback to Audioriver. ”Memories of his set from 2010 either make people’s eyes well up with tears or bring back the day-after muscle soreness. If it weren’t for the fact that shortly after the show Jon Gooch gave up drum & bass for experiments with electro as Feed Me, Spor’s reapperance at the beach in Plock surely would have happened much sooner,” Napora comments. The timing is perfect though, as the artist has just released his debut album ”Caligo.”

The Polish fans of Hercules & Love Affair still haven’t had a chance to see the band perform their latest material coming from their third album released last year. It’s almost as if the band wasn’t in Poland at all, as Andy Butler, the leader of the group, recorded each of the LPs with a different set of musicians. However, one thing hasn’t changed. It’s his refreshing and rejuvenating attitude towards classic club music. And so ”The Feast of The Broken Heart” is packed with first-rate pop-flavoured old school house.

The sounds crafted by John Talabot are also singular and modern to the core. His debut album ”Fin” was chosen the third best record of 2012 by Resident Advisor, one of the biggest electronic music websites. The same online magazine considered the Catalan’s 2013’s ”DJ Kicks” mix to be the best compilation of the year, and if this wasn’t enough, he was recently ranked among the world’s 20 greatest DJs. With rave reviews from such media giants as ”NME” or Pitchfork, Talabot’s fame goes far beyond the circle of regular club-goers.

Seventh on the RA’s top live acts of 2014 list, Karenn is a duo formed by Blawan and Pariah, both well-known for their solo projects. Their live acts are all about dialogue between themselves and their impressive set of tools, which leaves the audience clueless about what’s coming next. One thing we know for sure – there’s a piece of equipment they’re not going to use on stage – a laptop.

Karenn – Boiler Room London Live Set

Staying on the dark side of things, it’s time to present Graze, another duo formed by active solo artists, Adam Marshall and Christian Andersen. The former is a descendant of the house and techno tradition, the latter revolves around jungle and dubstep. Together they create an unusual hybrid, virtually impossible to put a label on, which you can find on both of their excellent albums: ”Edges” from 2013 and ”Soft Gamma Repeater” from November 2014. Both released on Adam Marshall’s amazing New Kanada label.

Graze – Ques

Both of the last foreign projects on the list represent drum & bass, each of them, however, from a slightly different perspective. Founded by two producers, SpectraSoul are currently prepping a follow-up for their debut album from 2012, ”Delay No More”. Their second LP titled ”The Mistress” will be out in May. Jaguar Skills, on the other hand, is one of the most skilful DJs out there, whose sets and mixtapes have become truly canonical. Take the ”1979-2006: A Hip-Hop Odyssey – 800 Tracks In 45 Minutes”, for example. It has hit over a million downloads and has been repeatedly presented on BBC Radio 1.

SpectraSoul – Light In The Dark ft. Terri Walker

Finally Baasch, a Polish artist who earlier this month premiered his first album ”Corridors” and grabbed everyone’s attention. The producer lived up to the hopes pinned on him after his debut EP ”Simple Dark & Romantic Songs” and the score he composed for the Polish film ”Floating Skyscrapers”. ”Corridors” is a mature and emotional album, captivating from start to finish.

Baasch feat. Y (BOKKA) – Crowded Love

The second batch of early-bird tickets is now on sale. 2-day tickets (PLN 190/EUR47) and 3-day tickets (PLN 240/EUR59) are available on http://. Please mind that the prices go up on May 11.

Audioriver Festival is the perfect summer event for anyone interested in quality electronic and alternative music. The line-up so far includes: Róisín Murphy, Anja Schneider, Audion live, Baasch, Ben Klock, Fur Coat, Graze live, Hercules & Love Affair, High Contrast, Icicle – Entropy live, Jaguar Skills, John Talabot, Kalipo live, Karenn live, Marcel Dettmann, Nervy, Noisia, Roni Size, Reprazent live, Simian Mobile Disco (dj set), Solomun, SpectraSoul, Spor feat.
